Madikeri — visit the hilltown amidst the lush rainforests

Madikeri is a hilltown in Karnataka and falls under the district of Coorg. It is also known as Mercara. The place has a rich history which is mainly associated with the history of Kodagu, The hilltown has a tropical highland climate temperature during summers remains around 30 degree Celsius. In winters, it dips to up to 10 degrees. Madikeri is geographically located in the Western Ghats and lies east to Mangalore and west to Mysore. Reaching Madikeri is convenient as it is connected to NH 88 by road and Mangalore airport is about 140 k.m. from the place. For visitors, there are a number of hotels in Madikeri with tariff range that fits different budget ranges and hence can be easily accommodated on your pocket. Places to see: Witness the history of this city from the bygone era by taking a look at the Madikeri Fort which was originally the fort of Tipu Sultan. Inside the fort, there is a museum as well. Raja’s Tombs which exhibit the Indo-Saracenic style are also worth the visit. Raja’s seat gives a spectacular view of the sunset which was once a royal spot for this activity. Abbi falls is an attraction for the adventure lovers.

Places to eat at: Try Coorg Cuisine for some regional delights such as pandhi barthad with kadambuttu, cooked in Kodava style. Relish the taste of scrumptious vegetarian thali at a reasonable price at Athithi, the eatery that serves the food on banana leaf. DIning at Hotel Capitol and East End Hotel is a posh experience in the context of the town.

Things to do: Trek at Coorg Trails that involves an overnight stay, relax at Jiva Spain the lavish rainforests, take the microlight aircraft to your flight of joy, or visit Ayurjeevan for some cool naturopathic healing.
